Location™ is an extension for QuicKeys 2™ that lets you locate folders quickly when any file dialog box is open. By pressing a keystroke you can jump to a preselected folder. The folder can be on any mounted disk.
You also can set up a keystroke to restore the folder that was in use when you pressed the Location QuicKey.
You can set up many different Location QuicKeys to open many different folders. Location QuicKeys also can be included in sequences.
Creating a Location QuicKey
1) Open QuicKeys 2.
2) Select “Extensions” from the Define menu. Select “Location” from the submenu.
3) Click the “Select Location” button. The Select Location dialog box will appear.
4) Select the folder you want to open. Open it and click the “Select” button. The path to the selected folder will appear under the “Set Standard File Location” button.
Note: You must open the folder that you want to go to with the Location QuicKey before you click the “Select” button. You also cannot define a Location QuicKey while a Save As or Open dialog box is on the screen.
5) Assign a keystroke to this QuicKey. QuicKeys 2 automatically names the QuicKey “Location”, but you may want to give it a more meaningful name.
6) Click “OK” and try out your new Location QuicKey.
After pressing your new Location QuicKey, the Open dialog box will be set to display the contents of your chosen folder.
Returning to the Previous Location
You also can use a QuicKey to locate and open the folder that was in use before you pressed the last Location QuicKey.
You may have created many different Location QuicKeys to “jump” to different folders. You need to create only ONE Restore Location QuicKey. (For example: If you switch to folder A, then use another Location QuicKey to switch to folder B, then still another to switch to folder C, pressing the Restore Location QuicKey will open folder B. Pressing the Restore QuicKey again will do nothing.) You can create other Restore Location QuicKeys if you wish, but they will not provide any extra advantages.
1) Open QuicKeys 2.
2) Select “Extensions” from the Define menu. Select “Location” from the submenu.
3) Click the “Restore Standard File Location” button.
4) Assign a keystroke to this QuicKey. QuicKeys 2 automatically names the QuicKey “Location”. You will probably want to rename it “Restore” or “Restore Location”.
5) Click “OK”. Test it by pressing a Location QuicKey, then open the standard Open dialog box and see which folder is in view. Press your Restore Location QuicKey and see if it returns to the earlier folder.
Note: A Location QuicKey and the Restore Location QuicKey must operate in tandem. You cannot go back if you have not gone anywhere.
